Cisco Webex: The Platform That Turns Your Ideal Video Conferencing Experience into Reality
20 Apr 2021
We have left behind the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. A new era has begun, one that we are trying to adapt to and get used to. At first, we tried to convince ourselves that this was just a temporary period, but with each passing day, we have learned that this is not the case. Remote work has now become an indispensable part of our professional lives, and the web conferencing software we rely on, which initially served as a lifesaver, has revealed many shortcomings in terms of user experience.
We have all watched amusing web conference mishaps shared on social media with a smile. When considering work efficiency and continuity, it became evident that the priority is to provide users with a comfort zone. Among the manufacturers advancing with this vision, Cisco stands out, having invested in this area for years.
In 2007, Cisco acquired Webex and effectively identified the shortcomings of the video conferencing world. With timely acquisitions, Cisco managed to shape its products based on customer needs in a very short time. In 2009, it acquired the Norwegian company Tandberg, integrating video conferencing endpoints; in 2015, it acquired Acano, incorporating video conferencing infrastructure solutions, positioning itself as a leader in the market.
In the past two years, Cisco acquired companies like Voicea, Babblelabs, and Slido, introducing many features to enhance user comfort on the Cloud Webex side.
With the Voicea acquisition, Cisco began to integrate AI and machine learning technologies into Webex’s meeting, calling, and contact center services.
The Era of Taking Notes Ends with Cisco Webex
One of the biggest challenges we face during meetings today is taking notes. Manually taking notes during a fast-paced meeting is not only exhausting but also raises questions about its effectiveness. With the transcription feature, conversations during meetings are converted into text, and a report is automatically generated at the end of the meeting, including highlighted topics — a feature that will undoubtedly simplify and accelerate our workflow.
Additionally, the Captions feature, which converts spoken words into text as subtitles during the conversation, seems to eliminate accent-related issues in foreign language meetings.

Cisco Webex Real-Time Translation Support
We have all been in meetings where language barriers made communication difficult. At least for video meetings, Cisco has developed a real-time translation feature to overcome this issue. This feature will offer translation in over 100 languages, including Turkish. With the latest version to be released in May, we will be able to benefit from this feature.

Cisco Webex Cleans Up Your Background Noise
One of the biggest challenges of working from home is dealing with background visuals and noise. Many of us have had amusing experiences during meetings throughout the pandemic. At this point, Cisco quickly integrated Virtual Background and Remove Background Noise features into Webex using solutions from the acquired Babblelabs company to enhance user comfort.
Additionally, if you want to play music or an instrumental piece during your meetings, the microphone will optimize the sound and transmit it more clearly to the other side. Simply enable the Music on Mode to do so.

Decision-Making and Feedback Collection Processes Accelerated in Meetings
Another recent acquisition by Cisco, Slido, is one of the leading applications for conducting polls, preparing Q&A sessions, creating quizzes, collecting feedback, and analyzing results during classroom training, meetings, or events. All these features are now integrated into Webex, making them easily accessible.

More Flexibility in Training Sessions
Previously available through the Training module, the Break-Out Session Module is now seamlessly integrated into Webex Meetings, allowing for the creation of breakout sessions to bring together smaller groups during a session.

A Delightful Feature That Displays Both the Presentation and Presenter on a Single Screen
Another new feature that will elevate interaction is the Immersive Presenter. Developed to allow your audience to see both you and your content on the same screen, this feature makes video conference streams more engaging — similar to weather forecasts, where viewers can watch you in front of the main screen.

Emoji Support for Team Motivation
Another new feature introduced with Webex is the hand gesture recognition feature. It detects your hand gestures and displays them as emojis on the screen, bringing a touch of the warmth of office environments to remote work and helping to boost team motivation and performance.

These innovations we’ve mentioned are truly user-driven, designed to enhance user comfort and simplify life with innovative features. Cisco appears determined to maintain its leadership in this area by rapidly delivering solutions that provide the best user experience without hesitation in investing.
